Marufukuro is a beautifully appointed hotel in a quiet neighbourhood of Kyoto. It is close to buses and subway stations and is about 20 mins walk from Kyoto main station so it is a very convenient location. The hotel is decorated with classic mid century modern furniture and has retained much of the original features of the Nintendo offices. We thoroughly enjoyed our time here, the guest only lounge is a relaxing space to spend an evening and the bed was the most comfortable of our entire trip. The rooms are very spacious compared to average Japanese hotel rooms. It is at a higher price point than we are usually comfortable with but as it was a special occasion for us we splashed out. Everything is luxurious and well considered, so the pricing does reflect the offering. There are snacks and beverages offered at no extra cost and various amenities available including complimentary access to a local onsen. Staff were a delight to deal with and were very helpful.

Everything about my stay at Marufukuro was exceptional. The staff was incredibly kind, the amenities were top-notch, the rooms were beautiful and my dinner at the hotel restaurant was one of the best meals of my entire trip to Kyoto. Not only would I absolutely stay here again, I've already recommended it to friends and family as well. The library, the bar, the snacks provided... everything was perfect! Thank you to the entire staff of Marafukuro for making my stay such a pleasant one and I look forward to visiting again one day! PS: If you're staying here, make sure to book one of the balcony rooms. The view was perfect to watch the sunrise and sunset!

Best stay experience ever! The staff took care of us so well, Japanese hospitality at it's best. Frankly, we have stayed at way more expensive hotels, but nothing came close to how we felt here. Top thinks to like about, 1) Great place with close proximity to Kamo river and pretty much everything interesting in Kyoto 2) Rooms are good sized and immaculate 3) Staff are well trained, speak English and well trained 4) Food, especially breakfast was absolute best! Please have it, especially Japanese one. 5) Nintendo library and make yourself a drink or a cocktail is mesmerising 6) Snacks and drinks if you feel peckish, pretty much anytime.

This was a truly surprising and delightful experience. When I was searching for hotels on Booking I noticed that the room description mentioned it was designed by Tadao Ando. When we arrived at the hotel, we saw Nintendo branding and realized this was the birthplace of Nintendo! The small fridge, and in the lounge area, all the drinks and entertainment were complimentary. The quality of the refreshments and food provided was excellent. After 9pm, they even offer free ochazuke (tea over rice) in the lounge. The location is excellent, and the hotel provides bicycle rentals.

Right from arrival it was 5-star service! Riku picked up on me being a fan of Nintendo and showed me around the building and what furniture and installations are still from the original Nintendo Headquarter this hotel once was. I stayed in the Japanese Suit which was brilliant. The best part to me was the open air bath which I enjoyed for multiple hours. A hot bath in crisp February air. Also the hotel being all inclusive with a nicely stocked mini bar helped to relax and enjoy the evening.
